As anyone who has read this blog knows, Ronnie James Dio is my favorite singer of all time space and dimension.
R.I.P. Ronnie and thanks again for the music.

January 31, 1964 to May 2, 2013
Jeff was my favorite of the two guitar players in Slayer. Kerry King always had the higher profile in the metal scene, but Jeff’s playing was much more varied and creative than Kerry’s. That’s just my humble opinion. But look at the writing credits and tell me I’m wrong.
Jeff was also the one who really brought the early 80′s hardcore-punk influence the the Slayer sound too…and that is what made early Slayer so special to me personally.
I am really glad I got to see them three times if I am not mistaken. The “South of Heaven” tour in L.A. The “Seasons in the Abyss” tour, also in L.A. And again in Anchorage, Alaska…sometime in the 90′s.
First, the horrible spider bite he got.
And now liver failure.

The Swans album, “The Seer” (2012), is f*ckin’ EPIC!
There is a song that is 23:01 (Apostate), one that is 19:10 (A Piece of the Sky), and another that is 32:14 (The Seer).
I wasn’t too impressed on the first listen. But by the second spin I was sucked-in…this is a great album. It is too late in the year (2013) for me to keep adding to my best albums of 2012 list. I just bought “The Seer” a couple of weeks ago…but if I did buy it last year, it would have been very high on the list.

I have been working on a Top 100 favorite songs list for about 4 months now. I didn’t place any rules or guidelines on the list. It was just supposed to be my 100 favorite songs…period. I have made 36+ updates to the list (actually much, much more than that, but I have renamed the list 36 times…and I am up to “MK 36″). But, I give up. It’s impossible for me. The main reason being, upon analyzing my list, is that I am not a “singles” or “song” guy. I am a “band” guy. Meaning, I really like certain bands and musicians. And if I REALLY dig ‘em, I like their WHOLE catalog. Thus my list was almost completely dominated by: Black Sabbath, Black Flag (& various Greg Ginn solo-bands), Saint Vitus, Frank Zappa, and a few others. Without rules that limit the number of songs per artist allowed on the list, those four artists could have taken up all 100 slots on the list! Beyond that, the other songs by other artists on my list seemed to change, no matter how hard I tried to analyze my tastes in music. It has been really difficult.
